Cancer can’t take everything

As I sit here writing this blog post I was going to say I am excited that spring is here! So excited that over the weekend we went for a walk at Ririe Reservoir and I found a lady bug! Ladybug

Well, like I said, I was excited, but as I look out the window there is snow falling…in April…Awesome! Thanks Idaho!

Our weekend was spent together which is how we like it. A walk outside, watching conference, and finally getting that rest we can never seem to catch up on. This past week has had its ups and downs. We like to say more ups because we try to pay more attention to those.

Throughout the week Nick’s head had a tingling sensation and then as the week went on he realized that he was shedding. He was finding hair on his shirt, pillows, and his hands when he was putting gel in. Now, let me tell you. You never know how hard it is to lose your hair until you don’t have the choice. Cancer takes a lot from you, but it can’t take who you are and what you can be. It teaches you how to stay positive even in the toughest of times.

So, Saturday we took to the razor. It’s ball caps during the day and beanies at night. This t-shirt says it all!

Today he was supposed to start his full week of chemo, but we received his blood work and his white blood cell count is almost non-existent. So, it is going to be a shot everyday this week to help his bone marrow produce more so that we can start cycle 2 next week. We have mixed feelings about that because it pushes his chemo back a week, but it gives Nick another week to recover from the previous three weeks.  We will be bleaching the house and quarantining Nick because we don’t need him getting sick.

Now, we have had some people ask how they can help. Since we can’t really have people around due to the fragile state of  Nick’s immune system here are a few ways you can help if you want.
1. Shave your head in support of Nick (Nick won’t let me shave my head so…)
2. Donate to our gofundme account. https://www.gofundme.com/chemo-cancer-treatment-for-nick
3. Send funny cards or letters. (Message me for our address)

We have felt so blessed and loved throughout this whole process. We know we are only a 1/3 of the way through, but the time has gone by somewhat fast. We know there is something so important to learn from this experience and someone that we are supposed to help in the future. It just takes time to learn the true lesson. We know our Heavenly Father hears us and answers our prayers. Here is a quote from conference this weekend that matches how we feel perfectly. quote

To those of you enduring a trial, a heartache, something that you just don’t think you’ll make it through ask and you will be helped.

XOXO, Hailey

  1. Hailey,
If I could have your address I’d love to send Nick something to cheer him up. I was thinking old drama photos too 🙂 Keep up the good faith.

  4. You are both so strong. It hurts my heart to know you are both going through this….esp Nick. He is such a fun loving wonderful person and I have a feeling that he will somehow find the silver lining to all of this. There are angels watching over you both. I know this is true. Angels from heaven….and the Lord too. With these trials will come special blessings. Keep the faith. Believe in the power of God.
